1973 Mach 1 Mustang FMX transmission linkage

Just recently bought a 73 Mach 1 with a FMX transmission.
The shif linkage for the kickdown is not hooked up/operational.

The previous owner claimed that it would not clear the headers that he installed.
The rod looks to be there, however i have not been able to get it in the air to see for sure.

Does anyone know anything about the clearance issues with headders on a Mach 1?
I can shift manually but this is not optimal and I would hate to miss and hit reverse.
