Good news for '66 clutch Hey Gang,
I posted a couple weeks back about some trouble I was having with my 1966 clutch. I found a mechanic that is not only honest but doesn't give up until the job is done...
I had been having so much trouble with the clutch in my '66 mustang that I was contemplating giving up and selling...
It turns out that the remanufacture we had done on the clutch isn't really that great so all I was ever doing was prolonging the inevitable.
Long Story short ......
My Mechanic (he's doesn't actually belong to me) started a search and found a modern clutch that was the same size as the original (not made anymore) and tells me that it went straight in with absolutely no modifications att all. Now for the first time in the three years I have owned the Mustang , I have a clutch that actually works..
notes:
1. It is a little stiff but no more than the original .. I'm told to expect a little stiffer clutch with the old cable clutch.. Again not outrageously stiff...
2. There is a bit of getting used to with the smoothness of the clutch engaging. At first it seemed to engage with a thud , as it would if you let a clutch out to quickly , but over the last week it has settled down quite a lot . Not sure if things are bedding in or I am just getting used to it.
I am so happy that I just wanted to share my experience.
The new Clutch is from 83 - 86 4 cyl Mustang
If i can give any one more information let me know and I can talk find out more details as far as part numbers etc....
Good Luck
Tony
