Default Need Help With Interior Package Tray Installation In a 1966 Mustang

I am replacing the rear package tray in a 1966 coupe. The quarter panel trim has an "extension" or "tab" with an oval screw hole at the rear that either would fit under the package tray or on top of it. Which is correct and what screw or fastener should be used in the oval holes? There is not a hole in the metal tray support that would accept a screw. Were these "extentions" left unsecured by Ford??
Thanks,
John T.

There should be a chrome wafer-head screw in that hole. Hard to find, not available new.

Like this, but longer.

On mine, it is on top of the package tray ( I changed to a metal package tray, so it may look a little different).

Thanks for your effort! From your picture it looks like the quarter panel extension is under the package tray which is what I was wondering about. It was on top of the old tray when I bought the car and that doesn't seem right.

These might make for a good substitute if you are wanting something close to original...

McMaster-Carr

You'll have to verify the size.

Thanks, the "low profile" looks like a good match.

So that's where that little screw is supposed to go...LOL

I have one sitting in my little hardware bin right now. The new package tray I got has 6x9 cutouts, so the speakers are holding it down...

Package tray goes on top and I wouldn't bother with that little screw. Once the seat back is installed over the front lip of the package tray it sets nice and tight.
