Need your help once again! I was going to take the Mustang out for a ride. I started the engine and it started O.K. when I put the engine in reverse it began to idle really bad, then the engine just stopped. I got out of the car and where the car was originally parked there was a puddle of gas and a trail of gas to where the car sat. Looked under the car and there was another puddle of gas. I immediately opened the hood and there was gas all around the carb, on top of the manifold and dripping towards the back of the engine. Fortunately it did not burst into a fire ball. I was trying to check where the leak might have come from and I did not see any leaks, but then the starter stopped working (I have to replace that). On Monday I took the battery to get checked to make sure that the battery was not drained (checked out O.K. & replaced the solenoid). I pulled the oil dip stick and it smelled of gas! Well I think what happen is that the carb float froze and sent gas spilling all over the place, filled the piston chambers with unburned gas. Now the gas has cleaned all the engine parts of any oil, I don’t want to dry start the engine after I fix the carb and the starter. One of my friends suggested that after I change the oil, I unplug the wire from the coil to the distributor cap and tap the ignition so I get some oil in all the places before I start the engine (is this a good way of doing it?) My second question is about the carb, I was thinking of taking the carb to get it re-built at a carb shop down the street from my house for $90. What kind of luck have you guy’s had when you send a carb to get re-built? Should I just get another rebuild carb? I know its long but I just wanted to make sure that you get all the info.
Thank's
Rafael
