Default 70 coupe instrument panel gauge problems

I have an instrument panel in a 1970 coupe that was working just fine, with the exception of the temp gauge I had eliminated the wiring and the temp sending unit so I got a replacement gauge from a known working instrument panel. When I replaced the gauge and installed, now the fuel oil and temp gauges no longer read, the alt gauge seems to be working fine. the flashers work, so i took it all apart and taped up posts thinking they meight be grounding out, I replaced the instrument voltage regualtor, put it all back together and tested satill no gauges. I noticed that the purlple wire labled number 11 was getting hot and there is a black wire that comes off and goes nowhere, Can any one give me some suggestions as to what i might chek and where that black wire is suppose to go . I checked to see if the were any obvious places but have found none any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance

You might wanna purchase a wiring book from Mustangs Plus or many other Mustang stores.

The black wire should be a ground wire. Before you ground it, check it with a meter with ignition in both on and off positions.
