Will shorty headers for a late model 5.0 fit into a 66 with a 302?? I see lots of nice ceramic coated shorty headers out there for a good price.. Can I use them?

No won't fit. Tried it already with a friends car. I did get a set of shorties to fit a 351 in a 65-66 from heddman( headman). They also had the 302 shorties I believe. It seems to me the best deal going is the tri-y headers. They work with standard or automatic trans. If they were good enough for the GT-350 they should work fine for you. Good Luck

Thanks rodbender. Tri-Y headers are what I had intended to use, until I saw some really nice ceramic coated shorty headers last night and thought myself how cool they would look. Oh well, TRI-Y it is.

You might have the tri-ys HPC coated. They have a real nice look to them. I'm having mine done by them. They guarantee the header for the life of the original owner. Plus they can do used sets also and inside and out.

Whats the quality of nickel plated tri-y headers vs chrome vs ceramic coated? Do the nickel plated ones turn blue like chrome does? How about ceramic?

Okay, nickel plating is basically chrome plating without the chrome. The process of chrome plating is usually done: copper, nickel and then chrome. The nickel stage gives the chrome a bluish hue.Now I've dealt with alot of exhaust systems on Harleys and I haven't seen one yet that didn't blue at one point or another. There's those that say tuning is the key to not bluing your pipes however it's been my experience to the contrary.Heat seems to be the culprit. The HPC coating is one system I've seen that withstands the heat and still looks good. Plus they're guarranteed. Hope this helps

I have not purchased the TRI-Y headers yet, I am hearing that I cannot use them with an AOD transmission, is this true?

What was the verdict with the headers? Which did you order?
I am having the same exact issue right now.
I have a 5.0 EFI, T-5 with cable clutch, rack and pinion steering.
I tried installing a pair of Flowtech longtubes. After lifting the motor I got them to fit but they hit the rack and pinion and pushed the cable clutch over.
I sent them back
Here is what my research points to:
JBA and Hedman shorties are the only headers that will fit with my set up on a 66' Mustang.
I heard that the Patriot shorites might work?
Why won't BBK shorties fit? I know they only make them for 86'-90' 5.0 but since they hug the block won't they fit? Someone on another thread said that late model 5.0 headers wont fit on a classic Mustang?
Well with you having rack & pinion setup, you have an additional obstacle that I don't have. If those BBK headers hug the block then they might fit, it seems like the shock tower is the main problem with late model headers fitting a 65-66 car, and the wider transmission is the problem for long tube headers designed for original SB + C4 setup.
I am just going with stock 1966 manifolds for now, until I can figure out for sure what fits good, looks good, and performs good.
