Default Power Steering Help

As some of you may already know i have a 69 mustang mach 1 and the car used to have power steering but was converted to manual because the owners before me couldnt fit new headers. What im trying to findout is what exactly they would of taken out to get those headers to fit. Im thinking of putting power steering back ontop the car but i really dont have a clue on how the system works and what i need to put back since they took something out.. All i know is i need a power steering pump but from there i dont know exactly what goes on next and how the pump hooks up. Since the system didnt fit before because of the headers ill probibally need to put extensions or something to be able to fit the parts somewhere else. If someone can tell me what i would need to get a functional power steering system again plz do.

Hello. In order to put power steering into your car you will need to replace the drag link, idler arm and pitman arm. You'll also need to buy the pump, brackets, hoses, valve body assembly and cylinder.I'm pretty sure that the tie rod ends are the same on a 69/70 car.As you might be starting to suspect, this isn't cheap.Ballpark it at about a grand. Since somebody took all of that out to install those particular headers, you'll be needing some headers that will work also.It just keeps getting better, doesn't it? Hope that helps.

Veronica if you were not taken.......and I was 25 years younger....oh well...

Remember that the older Fords had 'power assist,' not true power steering as we know it today.

The conversion back to original will be easy with the proper parts. How expensive will be determined by your own patience and ingenuity... :thumbsup

Hi again.I checked with my husband and he said that he isn't ready to trade me in on a newer model yet.I think that he likes the way that he can drive my car while I fix his. Oh,well. It's nice to know that I still have some resale value.
