Default Correct Yellow for 70 Mach 1r

First time poster here so greetings to all.

I have a 70 Mach 1 (Shaker) ready for color and have been using photos of other 70 Mach 1 to decide on color. Original was the Med Lime Green and since it's not a numbers matching car anyway it is being restored the way I would have bought it.

Anyway Yellow has been my choice since day 1 however when I went to the paint distributor and looked at his vintage D code paint chips for 70 FORDS, the yellow there appears very light and washed out (not to be confused with the Light Ivy Yellow (2)

In looking at photos - and using my memory from cruise nights, I thought the yellow for that year was a very vibrant shade of yellow. Can anyone help me out here and possibly provide the Dupont, PPG, Ditzler etc mix codes so we can mix up a sample.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Paul

Thanks Veronica but at this point I was hoping to get an actual paint mix code for one of the mainline paint suppliers. That way I can have my supplier do a small sample mix that we can apply on some preped metal to confirm color. On the 70 FORD paint chips we have I do not see a bright yellow as a choice for 1970 and while the D code for 70 is called just "Yellow" however as I said in original post, it's a very light yellow.

Thanks again

Paul.

Hi againHere is a picture of a car that is painted 70 bright yellow.Whenever I went to the PPG guys and just told them what color I wanted, for example 70 bright yellow, they would look up the formula and show me a little sample of it.Hope that helps.

WoW! That photo looks more Green than Yellow - anyway here's the Yellow I am looking for on my web site. The photo is one I cabagged off the web but possibly the owner did not use a 70 color??

Will visit my paint shop on Monday.

Thanks Veronica

how about chrome yellow from a newer stang? a lot of the early colors are lighter...at least its a mustang color but not period correct.

I owned a brand new Gabber Yellow Package Mustang in 1970. According to my 1970 Ford Shop Manual the code is "D", the M-35-J number is 3470-A. The shop manual also calls it "Bright Yellow orCompetition Yellow". I have also heard it refered to as "Grabber Yellow", but the Grabber packages were released later in the model year after the shop manuals were printed.

Here's a picture of my old Grabber on day after I drove it home from the dealership. I was 18 years old then and the picture may be slightly faded out but it was a bright yellow color back then.

Thanks Bill and all who have responded. It's very confusing with the numerous names given by Ford to what I assume is the same color of Yellow?

Well it may be however that color was not available on the 70 Mustangs. I see so many vivid 70 Yellow cars it's hard to believe that many people would not be using correct Ford colors in their restorations.

Thanks
Paul

Just came across this older post and thought I would post a foillow-up to close the thread.

It turns out that those nice - what appeared to be bright yellow photos - were in fact Fords U code Grabber Orange.

Thanks for all of the posts. The car is now completed and on the road. Click here for a photo
