is it worht it to go to braided stainless steel brake lines?
i have a 65 fb v8. is it worht it to go to braided stainless steel brake lines? and if so where can i find some? if not should i just leave the stock ones on there or should i replace them?
thanks
Stainless lines would definitely be an upgrade over stock lines. Could try Baer brakes or Stainless Steel Brakes for lines. I think they say something about making your pedal feel a bit firmer b/c of the lines. I have them on a 95' GT and they work well.
I'd just put regular steel lines in the car. They'll last another 30 years and possibly longer if you take good care of it. Stainless steel, in terms of brake/fuel/tranny lines, is a rip-off. Stainless steel wheels or somethin like that is nice, but not for lines, you're just wasting money. Just buy some new stock lines. The real difference in braking power is gonna come from a front disc conversion or power brakes.

I believe he's talking about replacing the flexible rubber hoses with braided steel hoses, not about the solid steel lines. I've been considering it on my car as well, but since I fugure its only a nice to have its been a low priority.

Yes ,the stock rubber-reinforced brake hoses flex and give more when we step on the pedal, especially if they're nearly 40 years old. With time and use, they deteriorate from brake fluid, ozone, and road debris. Braided brake hoses have a tougher braided stainless-steel-reinforced wall, which makes them durable and user-friendly. They give you a more rock-solid brake pedal because they don't expand and contract like rubber reinforced hoses.
Plus it's a safety thing :thumbsup.
