Default axle and trans swap questions

I have a few quick questions, but first I will give you some background. I have a 67 coupe that I dropped a 302 in a couple of years ago. It has an automatic in it right now but I have been looking for a manual for a while. The other day I came accross a man getting ready to junk a 66 convertible with a 289, 4 speed manual, and a posi rear. He said I could take what ever I wanted. So I am getting the trans and rear for $50. Now for the questions, I have been trying to find out some info on the trans and rear end. I already found out that it is a T-10 trans, but I read somewhere it said the T-10's in a 66 were called "super T-10", why is that? What is so super about it? "T10H-7B" is stamped on the side of it if that helps anybody. My next question since they carried the wheelase over from 66, will the rear just bolt right up to my 67? I believe it is a ford 9" rear, but what rearends were offered in 66? I know its a lot of questions, and I appreciate all the help.

Hello. If the car has a 9 inch rear end ,then it's either a 3.50,3.89 or 4.11 gear ratio. The T-10s where very flimsy transmissions. However,if it has the aluminium case it would be worth a little money to someone who's 65 Shelby blew up it's original tranny, which most of them did.You might want to go have another look at the car and check the vin.The only Mustangs in 66 to have a 9 inch rear end were the K codes. If the vin is 6R08Kxxxxxx(or 6F or 6T) the car might be worth saving. If it is a K code and it's a bit more of a project than you would care to get into,I know a person that is looking for a K code project car.I'm sure that there would be a finder's fee in it for you.Feel free to PM me if that is something that you would be interested in and I'll give you the fellow's phone number.

I am not sure of the exact vin, the car was sitting outside for about fifteen years so I couldn't make out all of the numbers. Also the owner told me that this particular car had a full frame, I thought all mustangs were uni-body? I am not looking to restore this car I just want the tranny and rear. However, it could possibly be a K-code car. I am going back up there to pick up the bell housing and rear end this weekend, I will try to read the vin again and let you know. If it is a 9" rear, will it fit my 67 coupe? Again thanks for the help.

I am not sure how "flimsy"a Super T10 should be considered. That is the transmission used in all the NASCAR team cars.It must hold up pretty good for 800 HP.

Hi again. The T-10s that Ford was putting in cars in the mid 60s were very prone to blowing up.Nothing 'super' about them. That's why people with 65 Shelbys, especially the R model folks ,are always happy to pay big bucks for an aluminium cased one. They know that if they drive the car there is always the possibility of the tranny grenading on them.
