Angry FLEX Plate broke !!!!

I pulled the engine on my 66 to fix an oil leak (I thaught it was rear main leaking but it was sump gasket .)only to find the flex plate was cracked half way round

check out the pictures


can you get heavy duty ones???

Hello.In light of the fact that the flexplate in your car delivered nearly 40 years of reliable service,I'd say that this is a fairly 'heavy duty' part.If you replace it with a Ford unit,available for about 150 bucks from most vendors of vintage mustang parts,you can reasonably expect another 40 years out of it.I wouldn't trust the repops.They might be ok,but they might not.Go with what you know to be bullet proof.Hope that helps.

I have just found out there should be a load spreader ring behind the plate might be why it broke

Got it all back togeather with a new flexplate and a load spreader ring(man was that hard to track down) on Friday afternoon /evening unfortunately not in time to make it to the track with the club.
