"E" actually stands for engine within the Engineering Department as does "A" stands for chassis, "R" stands for manual trans, "W" stands for axle all within the Engineering Department.
"AB" the A is for 289/302 and I believe the B is a design change, but I will do some research to find out for sure

Here is my # on my block I thought it was the 289 in the car until I pulled the engine and discovered it was a 302. I thought it was a 68 302 but now I'm not sure after reading this now I think it is a 71 302.

You still could have a 289, but with a 302 block. There is a number/letter combo on the front throw of the crank. If it has a 2M or C8AZ-A it is a 302 crank, 1M or C3OZ is for 289

Hey Bob_Mac.... glad to have you aboard... there's no licks to be had... no flaming here... thats why we're the best!
good year for a Mustang.. have you put pix up in the gallery?
to answer your question no.. the 351 had the windsor, cleavland, and midland/modifyed.
im sorry I misread your post.. the 351's have the 3 different types of engine... the 302's are just a small block.. thats all they are. there is a difference in years due to compression, heads, roller, and fuel induction.
The way to tell what year the engine is, is by the numbers on the side of the block.
the windsor family includes the following engines:
221
260
289
302
351
i have never seen a 302 that was NOT considered a windsor block, unless the engine was a chevy (yes, they offered a 302, most commonly seen in the 1967 camaro z28).
so to answer your question, YES, the 302 IS a windsor engine.
