Default Thermostat Bolt

I was removing the thermostat housing in my 351C, when the front bolt snapped off flush with the block. I tried to use a bolt remover on my drill, that did not work either, the tip snapped off from the torque.

How difficult is it to drill the bolt out and clean the threads with a tap? Needless to say that I don't want to damage the block. What do I need to watch for? Thanks.

Hello.Don't you just hate it when that happens? First, you would probably want to really hose it down with some PB blaster or liquid wrench or something and let it sit for a while. Then drill a small pilot hole as close to the center as you can, then use the largest diameter left-handed drill you can that won't erase the threads in the block.Normally the busted bolt will just jump right out when the left-handed drill starts grabbing and binding and stuff.Hope that helps.

Depending on how rotted and corroded it is in there, here's another small tip. Take a dremel tool and etch a slot into the bolt for a flathead screwdriver. Then just slip your screwdriver in there and unscrew it.
