The bolt pattern is correct for your car. But 16's? Are you going to get some low profile tires?

I'm not sure they are going to fit on the front, maybe the back. I don't think there is enough room up front. Of all the cars in books, I can't remember seeing that size on a 65-66 Mustang. You need some kind of guarantee that they will fit.

hey, those wheels will fit. I have 17's on my 68!
Some have even used 18's on stangs
I think those look very nice and will make your car look even nicer
It would be really cool to use some low-pro tires, I would suggest
something like a 2xx-35-16. You can probably roll with some 235-245 no problem.

Woah woah woah Strat, don't tell him that. Your 68 is much different than his 66. As you may or may not know, the Mustang's are 2 inches wider in 67-8 than in 65-6. So your 68 will accept a bigger wheel than his 66. Just as a 69-73 will fit a bigger wheel than your 68.

Also, according to a small article published by a magazine unknown to me(I came across the article when someone posted it a year ago or so), it says that the 16x8 will only fit the rear of a 65-6 Mustang.

I would recommend using 17x8" wheels with some low profile tires like 245/45/17's. Using the Ford Racing wheel adapter kit it allows you to use these size wheels and tires on your 64.5-73 Stang. These will fit.
If you don't think they will, put them on your car with the adapters. You will be aghast!

16x8 fits on all 4 corners. You can't go over 4.5 backspacing otherwise you will hit the front ball joint, 4.5 is the choice you want. If you went with a 17x8 you would want 4.75 Backspacing to maximize your rubber Fit is aided by the shelby drop and subsequent alignment specs and you can run a 225 45 17 on all 4 corners in most cases with no rubbing. , larger if you are willing to roll fender if needed.

Check the chart

Additionally, you can always call a tire store and ask them if you can try on a wheel / tire combination. Most of them will be willing to let you try something out to see if it will fit.

My intention is to stick a set of 17X8 rims on my 66 Mustang and 225/45/17 tires on the front and 245/45/17s on the back.

See JT, there are guys out there who know about these bigger rims bro. You just have to get the backspacing correct and measure, measure, measure!

Default 16s will fit fine on 65-66

These wheels are 16s from the V6 2005 Mustangs, not sure of the backspacing though. Tires size is 215/65R16.

Here's a pic from mustangsteve's website, I hope he doesn't mind:

http://www.mustangsteve.com/2005wheel_leftside2.jpg

Here's the page it's on, scroll halfway down:

http://www.mustangsteve.com/CarPics2.html

I hope this helps. You may want to contact mustangsteve to see if he knows what backspacing those wheels are and if they rubbed.

Hey Dodgestang, your fastback looks awesome with those wheels. I thought about getting something like those for my mustang (Vintage V45's) and i was wondering what all you had to do to make them fit in the front besides the 4.75 backspacing. Did you have to get a negative roll kit, and if you did which one was it. I have a 65 coupe and i'd like to make it have the same type of stance as your fastback does, or like the DM 450 Terlingua mustang to be more exact lol. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I am looking to fit 17x9 cobra r rims on my 68 stang with backspacing of 5.95 now by the chart that is on this site it says that I need to get .5" adapter and they'll fit the front and back. Is this right? I'm so confused oh I want to do a shelby relocation and I have 1 inch drop springs with stock rear leafs soon to be lowered a inch.
