Default Drip rail molding replacement

Has anyone ever tried replacing these? I cannot get the new chrome over the rail. Does anyone know a trick for doing this?

Hello. It shouldn't really be that big of a deal.I hook the top edge and then pop the bottom on with a rubber hammer, starting at the back of the door and working my way forward. You probably ought to tape a rag to the front of the molding if you start at the back.It kind of waves around and can really scratch up the paint.Hope that helps.

Thank you Veronica. You always reply so quickly. I am wondering if the paint is too thick. I have tried tapping it with a mallet but I am sure I am going to dent it. I know what you mean about the other end flapping around and scratching the paint. Yours is a good idea. I will try it again tonight

Thanks

When I look at installed drip rail trim on an original car it looks like there is lots of chalking along the joint. I have my coupe all stripped for painting but will want to replace the drip rail trim. Will this be possible after painting without mucking up the finish behind the trim? Is the chaulking necessary?

Thanks, Steve
