Default Strut rod question

I'm about to change out the strut rods on my '66 Coupe.
Looking through the shop manual; it recommends placing
a supprt between the upper arm and the frame rail before
jacking the car up - presumably to keep the suspension in
a 'loaded' state.
However; several vendor sites don't make this recommendation
in their installation manuals.
Is this a necessity? Is it going to be difficult
to re-attach the rods to the lower arm if the geometry is off?

Anyone know where I can get one of the supports mentioned
in the shop manual. It gives the specs' I just don't have the means
to make one.

Thanks!

I know on mine, it was a lot easier to replace it with the suspension under load, because that keeps the angle of the strut rod in a better position for you to get the socket on the bolt. When I jacked the car up and took the load off the suspension, that made the angle of the strut rod go up to the point I could not even get the socket on without stripping the edges of the nut.
