Default A little info would be nice

WEll.. decided to replace the Straight 6 for a small block V8... problem is.. i havent had time yet to start researching the new engine that we've (we being my father and I) decided to put in... Namely the 351 -cleveland V8. So.. if anyone has some little extra tidbits of information that might be hard to come by, or just... how common/ rare it is in a given junkyard.. would be great... thanks !

Either try to find a V8 car to start with or find a salvage V8 to steal parts from because you will need to swap out a lot of the I6 parts, ie:

Front steering linkages (ends, drag link, pitman arm)
Sway bar
Front spindles if you are upgrading to disk brakes
driveshaft
rearend
motor mounts

I put a '94 5.0EFI in a '66 coupe that started out as an I6. I found a 9" rearend at a swap meet and just bought all new parts everywhere else.

Just something to keep in mind.

good luck

Mike

We need a little more info also Like what year your car is? PB, PS, AC, etc,
Remember that all the suspension, steering linkage, brakes and drivetrain are designed with the 6 cylinder in mind. Most, if not all of those pieces will need replaced with the V8 pieces.

Hey I Just thought I'd see if I could talk you into going back to a modified straight six. My six is currently putting out 200+ hp. It is bored .060 over with Ford Tempo flat top pistons for a 9.8 :1 compression ratio. It sports a head from a 83 Ford Farmont that is ported and polished. This gives you a larger intake manifold larger valves and hardened seats. I run a Clay Smith 268/274 duration cam. This duration cam allows you to still run a stock automatic tranny. It also has a FSPP Ceramic coated header and a Flowmaster muffler and Petronics Igniitor II ignition with a Flame Thrower Coil. It also runs three single barrel carbs and gets 25 miles per gallon.
