Cool Head Unit

I'd like to enhance my 1965 mustang's sound system without cutting holes in the dash. So, I'm looking for a stereo that I can mount in my dash without cutting it. Does anyone have any recommendations? I found one that fits in the dash with satellite radio capability, but it only has 60 watts peak power. The catalog doesn't specify the RMS power. I'd like for the sound system to sound very clear. I know that depends alot on speakers too, but I want to make sure I get a quality head unit. So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

NATIONAL PARTS DEPOT sells aftermarket stereos and systems that fit into the stock mounting locations of these old cars. I can't quote the wattages of these units but I am sure that they have a good selection to choose from, and with them you do not need to subscribe to th satellite stereo supplier.

well, my cousin has a 66 mustang.. and he has the original stereo still in the dash. and he also didnt want to cut his dash so instead he installed a stereo into the glovebox.. which is also good because the thiefs cant see it.. so u may be giving up your glovebox.. but if a stereo is important then thats a pretty good way.. just my thoughts.

I wanted basicly exactly what you want. I wanted a CD player in my Fairlane and I didn't want to cut or drill a thing. I ended up with 14 speakers, two amps and all kinds of other fun stuff. I did all the work my self and didn't drill one hole. For your head unit, what about putting one in your dash with a remote so you can adjust it while going down the road? I've also seen some nice ones with an "under dash" installation kit that i've seen. I made my own kick pannels and put other spearkers in the rear package tray to equal it out. You can look at my car if you want to see how i did it.

Reply back with how it turns out or what direction you take, I'm interested.

Default Head Unit

Thanks for the help. However, I'm unable to put a head unit in the glove box due to my engine's computer being in the glovebox. I have a 5.0L HO EFI. Also, I have A/C, so underdash space is very limited as well. I think I'm going to go with the Jensen II in the NPD catalog and upgrade to an one amp if I find the sound is coming out weak.

I plan on using kick panel speakers, dash speakers, and the basic rear speakers. Thanks again! :thumbsup
