[65 Fastaback]

Hi,

I am in search of a 8" rear end and 5 lug spindles for my 65 Fastback.
I have a lead on a 67 coupe (4) spindles, complete drums, axle and pig for $160.00.
First of all, is this interchangeable with my car. Other than swapping out the yoke from my rear end with the 67s, can it work? Is the price reasonable? Or, does anyone have a 65 rear end and (4) spindles they want to sell that is from Michigan or NW Indiana? I live in West Michigan, near Holland.

the 67 rear will fit, but a Mustang only has 2 spindles, not 4, the the 65 steering stuff can be bought all new.

The 67 rear end will bolt right up to a 65, but I think the 67 rear is about 2 inches wider. That's what I was told when I was looking for a rear end to replace the 4-lug rear in my 66 project car. I wound up going with a 9 inch from a 57 Fairlane, the spring perches line up, and the brake backing plate to plate distance is only 1/4 inch difference.

Ok now I have a lead on an entire car. A 67 Mustang coupe with the original 289 and automatic trandmission - $500.00. Before I buy it, I need to know for sure from you "experts" out there that the rear end,spindles and drum brakes will mount even up on my 65 Mustang Fastback without any modifications? If I need to keep 14" tires instead of 15" that's fine. The car was driven into the junk yard 15 years ago and hasn't ran since. The tires are good and flat. Do you think the drive train (physically) is still good? I am having the work done - the shop will be stripping the rust, painting,replacing seals and rebuilding the brakes. How about the driveshaft length? The engine? I would sell or trade with cash the automatic tranny and will be in search of either a 3 or 4 speed. How hard are they to come by? Which year and transmission type do I look for? I appreciate any advise offered.
