Hello I have a 1968 Ford Mustang that I am restoring. I have come across an opportunity to get a short block 250 engine and heads that have been totally redone just sitting around. My vehicle right now has a 200 in it, that runs good. However since the other one has been totally redone wanted to see how easy, or hard it would be to do the switch. I was looking and noticed that in 1969 they started using a 250 so was thinking this might be simple. Any help would be appreaciated.

I belive the 200 and the 250 are the same basic engine block, so should be a direct bolt in replacement for you.

I would double check that. I could be mistaken, but I think the 170 and the 200 are the same size block, but the 250 may be a little taller. I saw one in a '66 and the hood wouldn't close over it.

I read your posts, and appreciate the input. The other people I have been talking with said since both are 6's that is should be fairly simple worse thing would be if engine mounts had to be changed. About the engine sticking up to much a mechanic has told me they make lower engine mount kits that lets the engine sit lower to eliminate that problem just FYI. Again I appreciate it and have pretty much decided if I can to still go get the engine even though the wife does not agree. Not too uncommon, but I figure if it will not fit I can probably sell it quickly. I think it is a smart choice since I know nothing about the engine that sits in it now. It sounds awesomely quiet, but could change sometime. At least with this one I know it is totally rebuilt ready to go. Take care and thanks again.
