Default More 67 spindle help...

I searched the forum and see some good info on spindles, but still have a question (hope it's not too much of a stupid question).
Can I safely change my damaged spindle without taking the coil spring out? I ask because my handy "Mustang Restoration Handbook" goes all into removing the spring first, but I don't know if that's just beacuase they're explaining a full tear down.
It's a 67 coupe, pwr steering, manual drum brakes. Spindle and hub were worn down because the kid I bought it from left out the spacer when he replaced the wheel bearings.

You do not need to remove the springs to change the spindles.. .just get the car blocked up high enough to give the lower arm plenty of clearance to swing down.

OK, got it...when the car is on jack stands under the frame, the wheel off and the spindle hanging there, there is no spring load on the lower control arm and spindle.
Thanks for the quick reply, I feel better about tackling it this weekend now.
