Can anyone tell me what the correct gap widths are for quarter to doors,and doors to fender on a 65 convertible? Thanks!

Hello. I guess that would depend on whether you checked at the top or the bottom.This car was,after all,built by Ford. In the 4/17/64 edition of Life Magazine there is a little two or three page article on Ford's new car,the Mustang.In it are some pictures of a red convertible.The car looks pretty raggedy and I'm sure that Ford sent the magazine one of the best ones that they had.I'll dig it out in the morning and scan some of the pictures.

Thanks.I'm using reproduction doors and they are rough around the edges.Gap is wide at the top and gets tight at the bottom. I'm going to 'custom gap' the doors because i want them perfect so i was looking for a measurement to go by.

I cant give you the exact measurements, but be carefull you dont close them up too much. Especially in a rag top, there is so much body flex, that there is the potential for close gaps to touch when the the body flexes when you drive around corners or when jacking up to change a flat. My coupe measures about 5mm (sorry Im an Aussie, don't know the inch measurement), but it has had repair work done in the past, so ist not too reliable.

Hi again.The pictures didn't scan well enough to be useful.Sorry.What I do when I'm lining them up is to leave a fat 3/16 between the back of the door and the front of the quarter and then line the fender up to that,making sure that the fender isn't too close or the door will hit it when you try to open it,chipping up that pretty,shiny paint that you just put on it.I hate it when that happens.
