Question Hello all..I'm a FNG, I have a Ford addiction and need help.

First off, I am new here so be gentle...LOL. I've been a lurker, not a poster, because anything I had of relevance had already been said, and I'm not one to "jump on the band wagon" just to get my post count up.

I have been trying to run down some numbers n a set of 289 heads I have and have had no luck at all. I have googled, excited, and yahooed about as much as I can stand....that's why I'm seeking the help of the Lords of Ford.

What I have has in the "casting numbers"(?) under the rocker cover area, is ( left to right as reading) 289 - C8ZE-B - HP. The HP is where the date code would be. Under the HP is a set of #'s ( what looks like a screw on plate, that has 8K26 on it.) Also, under the head (block side) where the casting # would be, is filled. There is an area where it should be but no numbers. And there is an "HP" on that side as well, along with a "B" Reading fom L-R on the head bottom B - HP - (# blocked out).

Are these an early High Performance 289 pair of heads? Anyone point me in the right direction to info on these? Thanking you all in advance.

I know its old school, but why dont you buy a restoration guide book. Plenty available from amazon, and it will have all the info you need. I dont want to put you off this forum, but a lot of the answers you get here are guesses when it comes to things like this.

Hello. Those are the service replacement heads for a K code. They should have the screw-in studs and little recessed pockets for the springs to sit in.The thing that looks like a screw-in plate is a date code. The '8' means 68,the 'K' means october and the 26 means, you guessed it,the 26th.That's the day that the heads were cast.Even though 67 was the last year Ford put the hipos in cars, they were still making replacement parts.Hope that helps.
