Default 1968 Mustang coupe to convertible conversion

Got my first stang about a year ago , and i new nothing about them just that i had wanted one for long time. i figured a mustang was a mustang, awsome lol!! . didnt even rel. it was a 6 banger lol nor the diffence in value ,gt , boss, 390, 351c ,shellby, fastback ,all new to me a year ago but l'm a more lit. mustang lover now and have loved every .challange i've faced. started with front pas side front of shock tower and across the front frame member removed off of a parts car I got on e-bay $250,bonus cowl heater box perfect on parts car as well removed at all spot welds and all parts welded back in like a glove gaps perf. The owner befor me cobbled the floors up and coverd it with fiberglass and bondo cut all out replaced with full pans , on to rear trunk floors tail panel rear floor brace and qt. patchs Finally done with sheet metal At this point i'm really wishing it was at least a fastback lol! Ok now , I'm putting a 5.0with 351 heads, bal.and bl.print. , T5 , EFI out of 89 and i red a mag. artical in M&F About a 67 coupe to convert, and it looks sharp, ive gotten this far whats a littel more metal work lol. Problem is it talks about a conver. kit that i cant find anywhere and the artical gives a ref . DRIVERS SEAT INVESTMENTS but cant find them on internet or in any of my mags! Can anyone lead me in the right direction ,or talk me out of the conv. lol thanks sorry about the long thread. P.S. I LOVE THIS HOBBY!!!!

By the time your done with this abortion of a car you will have spent enough to get a real convertable. Save yourself the trouble and pop for the real thing. Sounds like you're pretty good with sheet metal so find a basketcase 'vert and bring her back to life. In the end it would be a whole lot more satisfying than hacking up a coupe to turn it into something it's not...your money though....

thanks for the reply mike , I'm leaning in that direction I def dont want to ruin the car by hacking it up like I've seen with the fake covert roadster's .I just wanted to investigate the cost for a working covert Kit.

Default Drivers Seat Investment Convertible

I just found out about this company tonight, so my stock of news is LIMITED. Mustang and Fords june 2006 issue features a green 67 that has had this kit installed (page # 66-71), and it looks nice in my opnion.

Looking through the net, I cannot locate any refrence to this company either, so I am going to ask the M&F magazine forums about it when I get a chance (I also have some questions about a 350gt with forced air that they had this month).

As to the comments about hacking up a plain jane coupe, my thoughts on it are HACK AWAY. REAL convertibles are going for a tidy sum anymore, and to restomod one always draws groans from the concours crowd. Coupes are still going for pretty cheap (5k for a nice daily driver with a 289 was a local advertised price locally last weekend), so I say cut away.

Of course, in the end, its YOUR mustang, so do with it what you want. As long as your driving it, babying it, and not crushing it its all good in my book.

You're right in that a person has a right to do as they please with their car and there is no shortage of coupes out there but also consider that after all the money is spent on this conversion the car will be practically worthless, it will never be a convertable regardless of what it looks like and will be virtually unsellable as most kit cars are.

Also just because there are a good number of coupes avaliable doesn't mean we shouldn't start taking care of them now...the day will come when they will be as hard to come by as a 'vert or fastback are today.

I grew up in the 70's when "prostreet" was cool. How many perfectly good muscle and pony cars were hacked up because of a fad? Too many. I remember magazine articles on original early Z 28's that were prostreeted...say what you want about Chevys but what a waste of a car.

I'm not saying we shouldn't modify our cars, I do, and think as you do that a person should be free to do with their property as they wish. But I also wish that we as a whole would be a bit more wise in what we do with our cars. Elenore clones will be the death of 67/68 fastbacks and when they are gone thats it they are gone.We shouldn't be so fast to follow whatever hot trend comes along this month. Even Shelby clones where they may be restorable may not be such a great idea in the long run....something to think about.
