Thumbs up Just A Little More Performance Please

Hi Guys

I own a '66 Mustang Convert. with a 289 engine.
I want to kick-up my performance just a little bit above average.
I don't want to race on a track, just a little more kick to get out the way or move a little bit out in the desert where I live; Nevada.

So only with your help please tell me what do I need and what will the new ideas for performance do to my car
The car will be a daily driver. I just want un-stress the engine as much as possible. I know with that more horse power will come.
I want a tight fitting engine. :thumbsup

Example: I allready bought an Edlebrook 4bbl carb. Being new to rebuilding an engine the 4bbl will only open-up when I'm hitting the gas harder than usual.

So if you will guys take me to school On just boosting-up my performance a bit.

Here's what I bought so far and I'm not going to buy anything else until I hear your expert opinions on my question.

I bought the following:
Edelbrook 4bbl.carb.,
T5 transmission (new)

That's it guys. Now what do I do NEXT

P.S. My engine at the present time is being Magafluxed, checking the deck, hot tubed cleaned and cyclinders honed.

I'm in your hands guys.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Schooner

Another good addition is to improve also the ignition system, get rid of the points distributor and add either a PERTRONIX or a full electronic distributor (msd, holley, edel).

Better spark= more performance and improved MPG

A set of headers will be a good idea if you have the stock manifolds, if you want to keep it looking vintage you can install a Shelby style manifold which is far less restrictive than the stockers.

Upgrading to a 2.5 inch exhaust will compliment the use of headers and give you some extra horses and even nicer sound. You can even upgrade to a X or H pipe configuration..more HP there too.

High performance heads can also be installed, could be aluminum or cheaper iron heads. This is the where you can increase HP more than with anything else. You could also port your current heads, at least do a PORT-MATCH to your new intake and open up the intake and exhaust ports a bit.

hey schoona. You are in a perfect position to build exactly what you want. Most people are trying to get more ponies from whatever they ave in the car. As you are building your motor from scratch the skys your limit. I think I know what you are looking for; enough power that you can keep up with the new school mustangs etc? I recommend looking at the matched packages by companies like Edelbrock. Have a look at their website edelbrock.com and check out the performer RPM package. If you were to go down this path, having you engine built to the correct Compression ratio, with good quality parts, you will have a genuine and reliable 300hp motor, that will be absolutely streetable, and capable of pulling high 13s in the quarter. Dont skip on the short motor. use good quality parts and have everything balanced. you cant go wrong.

A set of gears would be a nice compliment to your new T-5, either 3.55's or 3.73's.
