Exclamation 1969 Mustang Headers with 4-Speed Install Problems. Need Help!

I have a 69 Mustang with a factory 351 Windsor, and a 4-speed toploader. I got the car with a set of to-be-installed headman headers. I slipped the passenger side into place, and bolted it in with very little trouble, and then moved to the drivers side. Although this was a bit tighter, I pulled the steering box, clutch linkage, and dropped the power steering cylinder at the bracket to make alittle room, and it slipped in with hardly any effort.

My problem came in when I tried to reattache the clutch linkage. I have it in now, and there is only about half an inch of motion before the Z-bar hits the 2 pipes that are closest to the firewall. I have heard rumors that I need the Z-bar from a 67 with a 289, and I believe this will fit fine, but I don't know for sure.

If anyone has any other ideas or can confirm that a different Z-bar will correct the problem, please let me know. I plan to call Headman on Monday, and see what they can tell me.

Do you have the part number of the headers? Not all will fit a standard trans.
Check out their web site? http://www.hedman.com/pages/hedmanmain.html

Didn't check out the footnotes but that might give more info on what needs to be done.

What I ended up doing was picking up a set of hooker competition headers that fit right.

The headers I got with the car were easily fittable...someone bought the wrong ones somewhere along the line.

I found that you can fit the headers in if you use the Z-bar from a 1965 with a 289 and space it out from one side with washers, but this is unnecesary with the hooker headers.

I have a 66 with a 5.0 and T-5 with clutch cable. I have a problem with long tubes hitting my cable clutch and the steering bar (not sure technical name).

I tried a pair of BBK shorties today but they hit the shock towers.

Which Hookers did you use?

I heard that the Hedman shorties will work but I would hate to spend another $10 to ship them to me and another $30 to ship them back when they don't fit.

HELP!!!
