Default 66 Mustang Coupe T-5 Swap Questions

Hello,

I have a 66 Mustang coupe 289 4v with a 4-spd manual transmission. The motor is pushing close to 350 HP. The car runs and sounds awsome, but the clutch is a pain in the ass in heavy city stop and go trafiic. It's just too stiff. So, I'm planning on doing a T-5 swap. I bought a brand new Ford Racing World Class T-5. Now I need a good set of clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel that will be able to hold 350-450 HP and TQ for now and future power upgrades. I'm thinking about buying the Ford Racing Heavy Duty King Cobra Clutch kit and a Fidanza billet aluminum flywheel. I'm reusing my stock bell housing to retrofit with the T-5 swap kit from Mustangs Plus. I'm also keeping my stock mechanical clutch. For those of you out there with experience with these products please let me know if these options will work with my existing setup? Also I need to know if the clutch will still be stiff? Please let me know if there are better options for my T-5 swap? Thanks a bunch.

Jake

I would invest in a hydraulic clutch setup. It will make your city driving ALOT easier. Since you are pulling the tranny and everything, might as well throw on a hyd. throwout bearing while your at it. It will completely replace your throwout bearing and clutch fork, linkage, etc, for a hydraulic unit. You just have to figure out how to mount the clutch master cylinder up to the pedal and run the hyd. lines from that to the bearing and your done. Look up McLeod Industries. They have complete kits with the master cylinder, hyd. throwout bearing, and lines.

I'm planning on doing the hydraulic clutch later on, but for now I'm sticking with the stock mechanical clutch. My cousin has a T-5 swap in his 65 Mustang and the clutch feels just fine. I'm just looking for a good set of clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel.

King Cobra clutch is a good unit and cheap too
Diaphraghm clutches are naturally lighter effort than the old finger style. Besides that, with a T5 and a modern clutch, the underdash spring will probably get canned, which should lighten up the effort even more

This is my first Mustang...everything for me is trial and error. So you're saying that the spring on the clutch pedal will get worn out with the new clutch setup? Is it due to less effort with the new diaphraghm pressure plate? Will I need a stronger spring?
