Default How to polish Stainless-Steel trim?

I have just started to bring back to life, a 1967 Mustang Coupe.
Some of the chrome will just have to be replaced, as it is in rough
shape. Some of the chrome can still be saved by re-chroming.

My delema, is with the stainless-steel trim. Although much of it has
light to moderate scratches, ALL of the stainless-steel trim on this
car could stand to be buffed-out. I have heard that a small-wheel
of buffing material and some "white-rouge" will do the trick =
anybody have the nuances of application & buffing??
I have not done this before and don't want to ruin a decent cruise-
car , with the careless application of a "wheel", be it on a DRILL ,
or a "Dremmel" tool ?!?!? I intend on buffing it while on the car
as I am not sure as to HOW to remove most of the stainless from
the vehicle.
ANYONE have expertise/experiance in the art of Stainless-Steel
Trim Polishing??? Do you know of a site I can go to for better
"how-to" instructions ??
Thanks for your help -
Joe Z.

I can't say that I'm a master of polishing, but I've done a good bit. The wheel that's being referred to is a very soft material so as long as you're not bearing down on it or have it spinning ridiculously fast, you're not going to harm the surface you're working. The compound is nothing more than a standard polish with a very fine jewelers rouge, the same stuff used to polish jewelry. Apply the rouge sparingly to start off, the more you put on, the more you have to take off. I usually will work the entire surface once over and wipe it down to see what I've got and repeat as needed. It's not incredibly hard, just very time consuming.

BlueStreak03 -
Do you apply the rouge to the WORK-piece , or to the wheel?

Do you have a recommendation for wheel size if I use my electric drill?

Thanks for the help ! Joe Z.

When I rebuilt my fold down assembly in the 65 I rubbed all the stainless parts down with steel wool and the polished em with mothers.

I think I pulled these in the right order:

I don't. I had a habit where I would clean up first thing before I would work on the car. (since I would leave the mess from the last work). But lately its all been piling up. I do need to clean up again
