Default transmissin cleaning

Hi all,

Lacking knowledge on cleaning metal and such, i was curious what is the best way to clean a trasmission, what solutions could i use, drying techniques and general ways to clean parts. I just got my tranny out and am now going to embark on rebuilding/cleaning it.

Thanks,
Argo

Start with a Pressure wash: Removes heavier dirt and oil but not any corrosion. Avoid spraying at any exposed seals.

Then you can try Shell blasting: Ground up walnut (or other hard) nut shells are the gentlest of the three blasting methods. Removes crud and shallow corrosion and leaves the surface looking the most like it originally did. Note that the blasting methods are the only ones that will get corrosion off metal in the nooks and crannies.
Be carefull with the rubber seals, you can damage them, so cover em up including the shafts.

For internal parts, that is another matter, just use plain water (hot) with a mild detergent, or use an engine degreaser (Metal parts only)
