Default 9" Posi rear end...good price??

Found a guy that claims to have a 9" Posi rearend that's been rebuilt off of a '67 he's parting out. He wants $450 for it. Wasn't on my list of priorities for the car right now so I haven't even priced them, but is is too good of a deal to pass up?

If it's what you're after, what he says it is, and has good gears in it, it's a screaming deal. Heck, an assembled posi 3rd member is about $700. Somehow I get the feeling this falls into the same catagory as bubba's "rebuilt" 350s LOL

ok, alarm bells are starting to go off in my head now that I slept on it. Besides the fact that over the phone this guy ends every sentence with the word "Holmes" and he lives in an area I won't go without my Beretta, when I asked about body parts he said someone bought the whole chassis but wanted it completely stripped to just a shell. Says he has everything he stripped off the car in his garage. Why would someone want the car minus good, working, desirable parts like a 9" Posi? I'm thinking I'd be buying hot parts.
And besides, it's $450 I really need to put toward badly needed paint. Hope I'm not kicking myself later.

That really doesnt sound bad if its a GOOD POSI, GOOD GEARS, GOOD BEARINGS, SEALS, rear end....

Otherwise i bought my 9" rear end with 3.25 gears for 125. need to add a posi for 270, seals, bearings for whole thing 160. so 555 for an excellant rear? I'd be worried about buying that one for 450 and having to replace everything in it. But thats just me.

BTW, you live in California. The guy had to strip it so someone else could buy a RUST FREE SHELL and either rebody their car or throw their other cars parts onto the rust free one.

"Holmes" what does this mean? It's not a word I've heard used down under.$450 for a 9" posi would be dirt cheep here

The word is probably "homes." As in, "homie" or "rollin with my homies." Kind of a US thing for some urban areas here.

I want to see a 9 inch posi, since a posi is a GM rear end! if it is a Ford, it is a Trac-Loc

The generic term is LSD. It doesn't mean some hallucinogenic drug but Limited Slip Differential. I have a Detroit TruTrac installed.

ok, you got me. I've always loosly used the term Positraction to describe a locking rear end. I guess in the same way we call an adjustable wrench a Crescent wrench, when it's really just the mfg name.
I confess to my ignorance of rear ends, much of the reason for this post.

hey, it is a pet peeve, like every moron calling a wheel a rim, the rim is just the outer section! I personally beleive that people should actually learn propper terminology so they can sound more inteligent (as for me, spelling is my downside, darn dyslexia)
