I'd probably go with a Ford Trac-Lok "posi" for normal use. They are rare for 8" rears though, so your best bet would probably be one of the aftermarket-manufactured units. There is a guy in Indiana that will build an 8" Track-lok center section with whatever gear ratio you want for ~$800 shipped. I do my own work, and I've done some rearends, but at $500 for the posi, $180 for gears, and about $120 for a master kit, I think I'll just go with a prebuilt unit. Motive seems to be the gears of choice, and I've heard bad things about Richmond Gear.

If you race, roadrace, or something like that, you might want to consider something a little more serious than a "posi" type unit.

GM never built a Posi-Traction locker for a Ford 8 inch

I got a chunk from a member of another board “fast500xl1”
He will build what ever you want.
He might be a member here also, I don’t know.
the one i got is a 3.55 with traction lock. It has been about 1 year and 10,000 mi or something like that.
$650.00 to my door with no core return.
Works GREAT!
Took longer to have the bearings pressed on the axle then to do the chunk.

I put a Trac Loc posi in my 68. It is the same type ford used but with 4 spyder gears. I also put in 3.80 Richmond ring and pinion. I got them on ebay and very pleased with them. They cost me 275. for the posi 165. for the gears and 30. shipping All new in the box. I purchased the install set local and put in myself
