Default Need help/advice on installing fuel injection in my 1966 coupe

Hello everyone, I have a 1966 coupe that I am putting a 1989 GT motor into with the fuel injection harness. I am a little afraid to do the wiring. I have wired the car with the original harness, but need any advice you guys can give on splicing in the 1989 harness. I believe I have all the components needed ( i.e. main harness, computer, maf, HEGO harness, O2 sensors and bungs installed, cold air kit for maf, and fuel pump). I also have the haynes and chiltons manuals for both cars. I am comfortable doing the wiring, but this is a lot more wires than I am used to.

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

1. Locate all wires in your manuals, keep a record of wires that might not be in the manual or wont be used.
2. TAG every damn wire, and run a cross check with your manuals.
3. Do one section at a time, again cross check, if possible take pics.
4. Dont start the car until you verify everything.

Tominator and GTraptor,

Thank you both for the advice. I have been on the fordfuelinjection site. It seems that the more I research this thing the harder it seems to be, but I know there are people who have done it this way.

I'm just finishing mine. I used fordfuelinjection.com, I went to my local wrecking yard and took lots of pictures and this site helps alot. Just take it one section at a time. Don't let the harness intimidate you. Good Luck

mexstang,

Thank you for the encouragement, I have some friends coming over tonight to help finish the wiring. Hopefully the car will be running by this evening and I can take it to DPR to get a tune done. I am going to the Queen Mary show this sunday and the San Diego Mustang Club show next sunday.

I just finished mine and there are a LOT of loose ends. This is ok except when you hook up to the diagnostic it will go apeshit and tell you to do pinpoint tests. This takes a long time. Basically hook up your intake/EGR and exhaust sensors. Dump the charcoal thing because your fuel tank vent should route through your fuel pump. I chopped of the smog pipes and welded plugs on at the heads. Everything seems to work really well and it looks good too.
