Default Oil Dip Stick for 1964 1/2 260cu Too Short

I have a 1964 1/2 Mustang with a 260cu V8 (supposedly). I purchased a new dip stick and tube for a 260cu from Dallas Mustang. The tube is identical to the old one, however, the dip stick (original lost) appears to be too short to reach the oil pan. To test the stick, I put over 4 quarts of oil in the engine and failed to show any oil on the stick.

A Ford dealer replaced the engine under warranty in 1965 - 66 and I am wondering if the engine is a 289 instead of a 260.

count the bellhousing bolts....if it has 5 it is either a 260 or a 289, if it has 6, it is a 289-302

Hello. It sounds like you have a 289 dipstick and a 260 tube.A 260 dipstick might be a little hard to find, so you might want to consider getting a 289 tube and routing it like the one in this picture.Hope that helps.
