Default New model brakes on 67-68 Mustang

Hey there people,
I did a quick search on this forum and didn't fina anything, so here is my question. Has anyone done a front/rear brake conversion on their classic stang with sn95 or higher (99-04 specifically) disc brakes? I know that some companies specialize in making adapter plates so that these brake components from the 99-04 cobra's, mach 1's & Bullitt's can be used on our classics ( www.vintagevenom.com is one example ) all of them with 13" front rotors. I currently have a set of 2002 GT brakes, front.rear otors and calipers avaialble to me and was wondering what is necassary to make them work. I would still need the master cylinder and power brake booster (unless the sn95 setup uses something different) along with a few other misc parts. Does anyone know or have seen any write ups as to what is needed to do this conversion? If so, a link would be greatly appreciated. What would have to be done to make these work on a stock 67-68 spindle or would I have to get the sn95 or newer spindle adapted to my control arms/tie rods? How about the rear? How would they mate up to my small bearing 9" housing? Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I have not found much, yet I am sure the swap exists.
As for those of you wondering why do this conversion instead of a standard SSBC or Baer Brake system...my answer is why not. Those brakes work great (I have an 01 GT myself) and would be plenty stopping power for my application. The parts would be cheap for me to come by and would probably cost about half as much as the SSBC front disc swap kit and I would be getting both front and rear disc.

ultrastang.com makes the rear brake adapters and possibly the front. I know Daze Cars makes the front adapters and he might carry the rear ones too.

I'm doing 4 wheel discs myself but I'm using 68 Mustang rotors adapted to the stock spindels up front, with SVO Mustang discs in the rear. At 11.25" all around, it should stop pretty good.

PS: Should be under $300 for all 4 adapters.

Thanks for the info Kyle. Are you going to be using a power disc setup or sticking with manual setup? I am not sure which power brake booster/cylinder to get. I would appreciate any input you or anyone else may have.

I'll be using manual for a while. I hope to eventually find a suitable Ford booster that doesn't cost a fortune, but finding a booster for a 65-66 manual trans car with a dual chamber MC is a tall order without going aftermarket.

You 67-68 guys are in luck, you can use a 5.0 Mustang booster, it will allow most MCs and clutch setups to clear and works with a manual pedal.

The SVO MC is a little over 8", so if one of the cast iron 75 LTD 4xdisc MCs are a little shorter that would work better as the booster is 7" in length and you only have 14" to work with before you hit the shocktower.

If you have an automatic car, you can use a 2.3 Mustang booster and you wont have any MC clearance problems with something like the huge SVO MC.

That's interesting news. I have never seen or heard that I could use an mc booster form a 5.0. Is there a write up or any articles on this swap? I would like to read up and see what parts I would need on this swap. Sounds like an inexpensive route when compared to the $400 and up bulky stock ones. Thanks for the tip 5.0.

You don't need any parts, it bolts right in. You might have to rotate the end on the booster rod so it will hook to the pedal but that's about it. Interestingly enough they are very close in size to the stock 67-68 booster. A friend of mine installed a 5.0 booster on a 68 Manual brake car and gave me the info.

Wow. So I could use a booster from a 5.0 on my 67 Master Cylinder and manual drum brakes with no pedal swap? I have a 289 C4 auto. What year range of 5.0 booster? From all 5.0's?
I plan on front discs later, but it would be nice to have the booster all set.

I know of two different boosters on 5.0s. My '82 had a larger diameter one, while my '84 and '92 had/have one which is smaller in diameter, but a little bit thicker between the firewall and the MC.
I'm not sure if '83 or '84 was the first year for the smaller one.
