I’m converting a 66 Mustang Coupe that had a 6 cylinder in it. There’s nothing in it right now though, so I’m switching over to a 302 or 351. I’ve been trying to research exactly what I need to switch out to set the car up for an 8 cylinder. Here is what I came up with so far:
Motor mounts for an 8 cylinder All steering components All suspension components
Nelz66,
I've done this and can give you a lot of info. You've probably got quite a bit so far so let me know if you have any questions. Concerning 302 v 351, what is your goal? 302 is easier as the 351 swap has some small issues.
Duane
I have went from an I6 in my 67 to a 289 with a single four barrel, 289 with a tunnel ram and 2 four barrels, 289 with a supercharger, and finally an aluminum headed 351W.
I changed the tranny, motor mounts, front springs, 4 wheel disc brakes, did NOT change any steering components as it is not necessary, and I put in an aluminum radiator and all the goodies
There are other details, but this is just mainly for the swap

[quote=03svtsnakevert did NOT change any steering components as it is not necessary[/QUOTE] It IS NOT required on a 67+, but it IS REQUIRED on a 65-66.

Actually changing the steering on an original I6 to v8 is NOT required unless you want to make a v8 car. (It is recommended though) If you don not change steering components you will need adapters for the outer tie rod ends to fit new spindles. Not required with the use of tie rod adapters but is recommended.
Of course it may be useless chatter since Nelz prob. isn't reading this anymore!
