Default Speedometer Noise

I have a 1967 Mustang Coupe , 289- 2bbl, with C-4 auto transmaiision.
I have just had the speedometer cable replaced at a local transmission shop,
because the seal at the transmission case was leaking. GOOD-news is :
the leak has stopped ; BAD-news is I now have a zzzzz-zzzzz--zzzzz-zzzz
Buzzing type gear noise at the speedometer which I did NOT have before.
I went back to the shop twice and the second time they used an adapter to
pump grease into the speedometer-cable housing from the top.
The noise is still there , and can be heard above 30mph -
( yah , I know , just drive the car below 30mph - but that is not the answer)
The noise get REAL-LOUD when at highway speed = 60 MPH.
Has anyone ever encountered this?
Has anyone ever tried to lube the gears INSIDE the speedometer head?
If you have lubed INSIDE the speed-o head , WHAT TYPE of lube?
WHERE , inside the head??
This noise is MOST ANNOYING - any help , much appreciated!!

I used white grease. I had to remove the speedometer cable from it's housing and lubed it by hand. first make sure it's screwed on tight to the instrument cluster. good luck

MEXSTANG -
Did you remove the inner cable from the top or bottom?
If from the bottom, what did you have to do to get the cable out of the housing?
White grease is good , it was used on the backing-plate of the brakes, etc.

Did you have to take off the drive-gear at the transmission side?

Thanks for any help -
Joe Z.

I had this same problem with a Mazda pick-up. Just had to tighten it.
