Default Steps to painting interior doors of 1966 Mustang

I am in process of painting interior doors and rear seat panels on my 66. I have sanded the doors down to bare metal and have rattle can paint and wanted to know if I need to put a primer coat on the doors first and what kind should it be if I need it? Thanks

I would go with a self-etching primer. They help protect against rust, and depending on the door color will dictate the primer color. Dark colors work well with black/rusty red, light colors work well with grey.

I'd put a very light coat of primer on and very thin coats of paint. Don't want to fill up the grain.

Default hello

Well first off it would be nice if you finish your bare metal in 320 or 400 grit sand paper even though your gonna etch prime and prime it. They do make a chemical wipe to clean off the panel before putting your etch primer on so there is no moisture but its not really needed and i forgot what that **** is called :\ but **** that put on some gloves and make sure you etch prime the metal asap after sanding. Then let that flash off untill it looks nice and dry, dry enough for the touch infact. Then proceed to put 3 coats of primer on it your pieces. sand that down with 320 or 400. blow it off and wipe it down with prep solvant to remove any dust and oils. then you need to put on sealer and that really depends on the color of the car for what color sealer you need. depending on what paint you use i wouldnt recomend letting your sealer dry for a long time, and dont apply the base on top of wet sealer let that **** flash off alittle bit.. but dont leave it on all day it usually causes problems. sealer dosent tend to dry all the way without putting base on it anyways. when you have your pieces covered nicely with base, give it two nice coats of clear. if this is your first time painting i recomend you pratice spraying first. if you run into a problem, there are ways to fix them usually. If this dosent make good sence its cause im drunk.. so if you have any questions let meh know.. laterism
