Default 1966 mustang 6 cyl #'s matching or a V8

ok guys post up
i have a 1966 mustang #'s matching 6 CYL.
1-new driver side floor
2-new cowls left and right
3-new interior
4-fresh paint OE color light Green

my Question is do i rebuild the 6 cyl or swap it out for an late model 8 CYL?

the car is for sale and i want to maximize on the sale.

BTW the 6 cyl runs good with a very small mis.
it does have some oil leaks and thats the main reason i am pulling the engine out.

Collectors will want an all #'s matching car. Gearheads could care less if it match's or not, they are looking for the HP. It would seem less money to rebuild the 6 than to go thru all the steps to get an 8 in there, and still see a profit margin. JMO

Hello. If you intend to sell the car then keeping the 6cyl would be the way to go.To put a V8 in the car you also have to swap out the transmission, rear axle assembly, all of the steering and some of the front suspension.Hardly a good way to maximize your profit from the sale.Hope that helps.

unless it is a K, X, R or a BOSS, any Mustang made before 1970 really have no numbers to match. I have never seen a VIN on an I6 block and have only seen one auto tranny with a partial VIN (1968 C code vert). That being said, if I see a V8 in a factory I6 car, I walk away since I know the differences needed for the correct swap (most swaps are half done). Keep it an I6 and make it mechanically sound. As for the miss, is it at idle only?

Not to start an argument here, but when the car was new I'm almost positive it didn't have a miss. Sounds like one of the plugs is oiling out. You could always get an adapter, and put a 2bbl on it, but I would find out why it's leaking oil first. Valve covers are notorious for leaks if they are tightened down too much, it will make them bow in the area between the bolts. Check the gasket on the cover too, maybe it's seen better days. Same as with the oil pan gasket.

Hi again A miss is never normal. The autolite 1100s did have a couple of 'flat spots' on the accelleration curve, but they didn't have anything resembling a miss.If the miss was ignition related it would probably be noticable in a pretty wide rpm band.If it is only apparant at dead idle, at something in the 800 rpm or lower range, it could be some crud partially blocking the idle discharge port in the venturi, right below the throttle plate.Hope that helps.
