Like 1qwk67 said up there, you need to watch your hood clearance. on my 69 grande i installed a performer rpm air gap, and 750 cfm carb and topped it off with a k&n 9 inch air cleaner, still ended up knocking a whole out of my hood, but i have a mach 1 scoop on it so it's tucked up under there. i got edelbrocks performer rpm package with the perofmer rpm cam and heads, it's a little slow at lower rpm's but when it hits 1500 it launches.
The car is '64 /12, but my father installed a new 302cid engine in 1973. I will have to watch closely for clearance issues, as stated by all. So, I will stick with the 600-650cfm Edlebrock carb., but now it's between deciding Weiand Stealth, or Edlebrock Performer intakes.
Would I be able to feel any difference in power or torque by mearly adding just the intake to my block and Edlebrock carb?
I am not planning on swapping out the exhaust manifolds, unless I have to. So far, I have a custom made exhasut that is neatly attached to them, that leaks into Flowmaster 2 ch mufflers, and the Edlebrock carb, w/ spacer. My cousin advised me to keep the spacer on even after I get the manifold. Is that a good idea?

You will feel a difference in power by mounting the performer rpm intake or any aforementioned aftermarket intake on the car...they just flat flow better than stock...
as far as carbs, I would go with Holley...they are easier to tune and you can get more out of them...with edelbrocks you have to mess with metering rods and the like...for out of the box performance buy whatever carb you like...I like my Holleys and now my Barry Grant Mighty Demon 825 cfm for tuneability...it seems that you can dial these carbs in a bit easier when making changes...I have had Holleys for years and been tuning for people for just as long...Does this mean that Edelbrock makes a bad carb? No, it is just not my choice to run an edelbrock carb.
just my .02

I feel the same Holley or Barry Grant are a whole alot easier to tune..
Taospec, here's the debate! You kinda have to do what I did and just choose. Your clearance will be ok. Buy a "low profile--thin" air cleaner. I had to use a spacer as my choke would hit the valve cover. So, 289 block, performer intake, 1" spacer, 600cfm carb, thin triangle shaped air cleaner. All this still gives me a whopping 1/2" max clearance from the hood. Woohoo

You need to rethink keeping the stock exhaust manifolds you are really killing your power potential by keeping them. Ford heads suck on the exhaust side due to small valves and ports and the stock manifolds only add to the problem as they are VERY restrictive. I've met more than a few folks who for one reason or another don't want to go with headers, fine, but you really need to do something because otherwise you're choking your motor. The best solution if you won't go with headers is swapping in a set of Hi-Po exhaust manifolds, not as good as headers but WAY better than the stock manifolds. Another choice is a set of 351W exaust manifolds which flow better than the stockers and are a bit cheaper than the Hi-Po manifolds, either way you really need to do something or all the work you are doing on the intake side won't mean a thing. Air and fuel has to get in but exhaust also needs to get out if you want to make power, it needs to be in balance, working on one end and not the other will defeat the purpose of your build and leave you disappointed with the performance of your car.
The spacer won't be necessary with the Performer RPM or Stealth if you go with just the Performer it may make a bit of a differance. Try it with then without see if there is a difference I doubt that you will notice one.
Hood clearance should not be a problem with the manifolds mentioned. The Airgap sits higher to provide air underneath the plenum and so the hood interference problems. That's not an issue with the Weiand or Edelbrock Performer or Performer RPM.
Hi guys I'm new here and I was just looking for some basic information about intake manifolds. For a base of reference my car is:
1983 mustang glx 5.0L convertable
650 cfm edelbrock aftermarket
5 speed manual
custom 3.5" dual exhaust to a set of aftermarket headers with turndown tips behind front seats
barracuda head? (i'm not 100% sure about this)
70mm throttle body
The car is mostly a recreational street car but I do like to track it occasionally. I wanted to upgrade the intake but I don't know anything about intake manifolds and want to get some basic information and any suggestions on which one I should get.
