Any thoughts on best gears for nice streetable car?? The car has a stroked windsor and at the tires 303hp (4000-5100 rpms) and 371 torque (around 3500-4000 rpms). I thought the tremec tko 500 (With 3.27 Low Gear & .68 Overdrive) and regearing the rear to 350s from 411's would be make a usable first gear, WRONG. I am out of 1st at about 10-12 mph, the second, 3rd and likely in fourth on the highway at 65 mph. I spend all of the time shifting. The couple of shops I use have not really given any new thoughts on gearing the car and originally said the 350's would drop my rpms on the road and return the car to usable 1 st gear. Are 280's going to make the car a dog off the line???? Thanks in advane from any guys that have been down this road in advance.

Hello, maybe a better choice for your trans would have been the Tremec with a 2.95-1 1st.gear. Another way to go might be a numerically lower (2.80-1) gear. I am guessing that your big Windsor has enough torque to get the car moving with that gear, versus a 3.50-1 gear. I personally am considering a 6 speed with the double overdrive, and a 3.40-1 or 3.70-1. But I occasionally drag race, so that would work for me. Good luck!! Desert Dale.
