Default AOD in a 65 coupe

ok it seems like this is a popular question, but from all the previous posts ive read i havent been able to get the specific info i need. i know it will fit but i need help with the specific parts list. this is my dads car, which started out as a I6, but now has V8 springs, spindles, (assume steering too) and 8 inch rear end. (still has the I6 in it but the aod is goin to back a 289) he was originally goin to put a beefed up C4 but since he loves his gas mileage i told him to put an AOD so from what ive read, im goin to need
-the trans
-modded crossmember
-shorter driveshaft
-lokar TV cable

now specifics, will the aod flexplate from fox mustangs work, or do they have an offset weight balance that is different? we have the C4 flexplate in the garage

what exactly has to be done to the cross memeber? elongated mount holes?

as far as the shifter goes, can you use the stock 65 shifter with a different cable? or should we use one from a fox car?

still havent read a clear definitive answer on which type of headers to use shorties? will stock ones work?

i assume use the fox mustang starter and plate between the engine and trans?

these answers and a place where i can get the specific parts would be much appreciated. thanks to all those who know!!

All 302s or 5.0s made after '80 or '81 have the 50 ounce imbalance. While all 351Ws, 289s, and earlier 302s use 28 ounce imbalance. I'd think you could use and AOD flexplate spec'ed for a 351W, if the 289 - C4 flexplate doesn't match up to the AOD converter - there's one sure way to find that out, if you've already got the AOD...
I've read that Fox-style shorties don't work in first-gen. Stangs, because the driver side header runs straight into the steering box. I think there are long tubes which will work.
I think you can use the original shifter, but it'd be nice if someone made a "P R N OD D L" lens for them.

I am doing the same swap, but I am not done yet so I cannot speak 100% from experience, but this is what I have understood:

-the trans (obvious)
-modded crossmember (true, they are around $130)
-shorter driveshaft (my understanding is that an original V8 driveshaft works without shortnening it but you have to use the AOD yoke on the end
-lokar TV cable (my donor 5.0 & AOD were originally a throttle body setup, and it has a kickdown bar that goes from the throttle body to the AOD. I have checked this and I believe I can attach it to my 2 barrel carb and have it operate the same way it did on the TBI setup.
