Cool How to fabricate a T5 crossmember??????

Has anyone out there in Mustang land fabricated a T5 crossmember to fit a 1969 Mustang? I’m getting ready to start my conversion and it is costing more than I expected and the articles I’ve read said there is a big savings there. I have a C4 crossmember and the T5 cross member from a 1991 Mustang GT.

If you have done it, I would appreciate the measures or instructions.

Have a great day.

You basically need to make tabs that weld on the C4 x-member to relocate the trans mount back about 1-1.5" and use a new rubber C4 mount. I've got a pic of it somewhere, give me a few days and I can dig it up.

Thank you so much for the information. I'm not a welder so I'm lost when you talk about tabs etc. Hope you can find the picture then I'll have an idea of what you are talking about. Making or having the crossmember made is suppose to be a savings. I have no idea what it will cost but as long as it's less that buying on I'll be satisfied.

Have a great day.

having it made sorta kills off the money saving factor unless you can get it done cheap (in WVa you can get anything painted or welded for a 12pack lol)

keep in mind a premade one is 125

Here are some pointers:
Quote:
T5 mounts 1.775" more rearward than C4.

I found it easy to make one by installing the transmission and measuring everything while the tailshaft housing was supported on a floor jack. I made the plate for the mount and then made 4 loose "ears" that get welded to the plate and bolt to the frame. I loosly bolted the ears to the frame, lined everything up as best as I could and tacked welded the ears to the plate. I then took it apart and completed welding it up on the bench.

Before swapping transmissions, measure the distance from the center point of your output shaft up to the transmission tunnel. Try to match that measurement with the tailshaft of the T-5 when you align the transmission on the floor jack.

By assembling the crossmember "in place" you can avoid conflicts with the exhaust and parking brake cables while you go.

Good Luck.

the good pic is history unfortunatly

Hello,
here´s another picture. The tranny is a TKO, but i had a T5 before.
The crossmember is the same. I build it from parts of the original 67
and the original T5.

Some Mustang parts houses sell T5 swap crossmembers for the classics-not terribly expensive
