Unhappy 68 dumping steering fluid only on left turns

68 gt, in rough shape. Any one ever had this problem. it does not leak at idle, with wheel straight or making right turns, turn the wheel to left and all of the fluid just dumps out. I can't find leak as by the time i turn the wheel, all the fluid is dumped. worse, the fan takes the sheet of fluid and sprays it all over the underside of the car, making it a bit tough to see where it is dripping from.. I can't seem to get where im going only making right turns ;-).. anyone have any guesses? have not had time to extensively look. won't have time until the weekend but would like to order parts.

thanks,
G

Sounds like a busted hose. I had a similar problem with my '68 and it would only squirt out when the wheel was at a certain position as the hoses bend as the control valve moves back and forth. Look carefully at the metal tube section of the high pressure hose, this is where mine let go and I've seen others let go here also. Poor design on Ford's part. The hose may also be getting caught or rubbing on something if it's not run or bent correctly.

Have someone else turn the wheel and watch, I wouldn't get my face in there but you should be able to see where it's leaking from.

P.S. Haledon, N.J.?
My father is from Haledon, he grew up there, and my grandfather lived there until moving to Florida in '85. I still have family in Totowa, Little Falls, and Maywood. When we go down there we usually get lunch at Pappy's on Union Boulevard or go down to Libby's in Paterson. Small world.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Jay H.... u where absolutely right.. the return hose had a crack in it.. when u suggested it i got someone to turn the wheel while i was under it and saw exactly as it opened up and started squirting. Prob the best news i have had recently. i am more frustrated i did not think of that one on my own..

Pappy's is the routine saturday morning stop. Libby's anytime gotta love the special sauce. I only moved there 3 years ago, I was an essex county resident from birth. your pop might be happy to hear that Haledon is on it's way back. they sold the reservior to franklin lakes, and are using that money to reconstruct the downtown area, among other things. A lot of young couples moving in and really trying to turn the place around. Ask you dad if he remembers the Mangers, i moved into their place up on the hill. thanks for the reply, saved me a feww hundred replacing the control valve. I was sure that was the problem.
