Default Panel or Skin Which One?

I'm starting to order parts to put my 67 stang back together. My question is this. My quarter panels are rusted in front and behind the the wheel openings, the rest of the panel is good. What is the best way to fix this a panel or a skin? Whats the difference? Thanks to all who reply, John.

Lil John,
As far As I know, a 1/4 panel SKIN doesn't go above the top line of the panel; A FULL 1/4 panel goes over the top line of the panel. Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I've been led to believe.
Hope that helps.

jay is right. Also, buy DYNACORN and DYNACORN only, they are the ONLY people YET to get the contours right for 67, early 68 and later 68. The side scoop differs on all 3 versions and they got it right.

Let me clarify the question a little. What is better to put on the car a panel or a skin? The rust is only on the lower parts so do i need to change out the whole panel? And whats the difference in a panel and a skin? Thanks

lil' j,

There are actually threee options that you can take...a full 1/4 panel, which is an entire panel from the door to the wrap around of the rear taillight panel downward.

A wheel flare panel which goes from ~ an inch from the door jam and extends partially over the wheel well. This "patch" will repair the area from the bottom of the wheel well up to the door just above the rocker panel.

And finally the rear 1/4 patch panel which will repair the spot from the wheel well to the rear of the car (bottom only). All panels are considered "skin" meaning outer metal.

Without looking at your car, I can't decide what would be better for you. I would probably go with a full panel. That way you can examine your inner and outer wheel wells for rust while you have the old panel removed and make any repairs necessary. There are a lot of hidden areas that will be revealed upon disassembly.

Whatever you decide you need to be real aggresive going after rust...there is more than you see. Nothing is more heartbreaking than seeing cancer bubbles coming up under paint because you didn't get it all the first time...spend the time and money and get it the first time.
