I don't think so. I'd believe the Pertronix instructions over anything else.
I think that an '80s Duraspark system (brainbox and dizzy) is the best way.
You can also use your points to trigger an MSD box. There's less juice going through the points this way, and they'll last alot longer, and it'll run better.

If you are talking about a car that you want to grive around in, then the pertronix is plenty good enough in my opinion. Leave the vacuum advance hooked up. A more elaborate set-up will knock your time down a little bit at the track, but on the street, I've had a few cars that had the MSD box and distributor when I got them and I couldn't feel any difference after I took that stuff out and went back to points.Personally, that big red box is not a look that I care for, but, different folks like different things.Hope that helps.
