Default Cleveland cylinder heads on a 302?

Hi,
I've got a 1972 302 engine that I've just recently put together with new flat top pistons and some other upgrades. The engine hasn't been running for many hours and now I've lost all compression in one cylinder.
I'm guessing a burned valve.
Since I'm tearing down the engine anyways, I need some information about the 351 Cleveland engine. I've got cylinder heads for the 351C and I wonder if they fit the 302 with no problems. And will the intake manifold from my 302 fit. Isn't the 351 block wider? I have also got a trim cam laying around and do I need to think about something in perticular when I install that?
Thankful for any tips!
David, 1972 Mustang Coupé owner, Tenerife Spain

It can be done I know my dad talked about it before. That is a little mods that have to be done to the heads like some drilling on the heads or something. I could be wrong but I think when you put the cleveland heads on 302 thats how they got the boss 302. (dont hold me to that)

but YES the 351C heads can fit a 302

the intake will not fit, you will need an expesive aftermarket intake.

it can be done the boss 302 had that setup 302 block with the cleveland head the intake manifold wont work because of the port size on the cleveland heads and there will be some modification thats needed. Its an interesting project none the less i have a set of boss heads on my cleveland, screw stud and guide plate with all C9 casting numbers on them there wasnt a cleveland in 69 so i think there boss 302 heads.

you need to plug one of the water passage holes on the Cleveland heads and drill a new one in a similar location that will match up with the Windsor block. It will work, its nothing new. Thats how the Boss 302 was made, like the others said. Your will loose some low end, so you want to have the parts matched to run hard on the high end. A set of port plates from DSC motorsports will help you out alot. You have to get the correct intake for it too.

Thank you all for answering so quickly.
I think I'll obandon the project and stick to my old cylinder heads. Maybe I'll install the hi-performance cam.
Thanks again,
David, Tenerife

IS the block a 302 windsor or 302 cleveland ?

If it is a 302 cleveland the heads will bolt straight on if it is a windsor see above

The 302 really needs a pair of Boss heads

and the cleveland heads are the Boss heads but U have to fix some small details so I wish You would go for it

It will make a better ´stang, U will get some real power

Ford Australia made a 302 cleveland. I build a 289 Boss for my 64 1/2 using closed chamber 2v heads of a 302. Runs sweet. I just wanted to do something a bit differant, everyone puts alli heads on and all the rest. I could have gone to a 302 but as I had the original engine I just built that. Some might say that the port size is too large for the 289 but.... manual trans and a low ratio diff, sweet!
Also check out this manifold Edelbrock 7129.
