My 1970 MACH 1 have the POP-UP hood locks and I can't figure what really makes them work.

I see where they go into the frame for the radiator as far as the locking part, but my problem is they don't always POP-UP. I looked in the owners manual and shop manual but didn't find anything on how to adjust them.

Sometimes it takes 4, 5, 6 tries before they POP and I make a mental note of how far they were turned but the next time it's hit and miss again.

Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do to get then to open the first time?

This is just a guess, but do you have a lot of wear or movement in the hood hinges? The hood may be cocking a bit and placing a bind on the hood pins over powering the springs keeping them from popping up. Close the hood and see if there is any movement by placing something such as a wooden paint stirrer in the gap of the hood and actuate the hood locks. Like I said this is just a guess.
