I have a set of Hooker hedders and glasspack mufflers on my car right now (mildly built 289). The previous owner had put them in. It's a cheap setup, but I absolutely love the way it sounds...loud and rumbles. I'm not sure what brand they are. It looks like a set of Cherry Bomb, but not sure. I'm getting ready to buy a new set of Hedman torque step hedders and would like to buy the same set of glasspack mufflers to duplicate the same sound. Anyways...what would you recommend? I'm looking at 5 different kinds to choose from. Which set will give me the meanest, and loudest rumble?
Cherry Bomb
Purple Hornies
Thrust
Patriot
Super Trapp
Thrush was the hot set up back in the dark ages when I was young (back before electricity ) haven't seen them for a while don't know if they are still around or not...great sound though...and their logo was pretty cool too-looked like Woody Wood Pecker with an attitude.

Thrush glasspacks? They are mid-shelf high at Napa and CAP and Advance Auto Parts lol. Good luck finding the offset inlet/outlet ones though. It took me a month to get an angled inlet and outlet Glasspack for my Mustang.
Go with Cherry Bomb. They are louder
Thrush is just as good, but for some reason they are quieter. Not sure why...
Anyways, when you replace the glasspacks, you will frown. At least, for a little while. The insulation is most efficient at first, but as the pressure and heat crush it down, the glasspack gets louder. They get "broken in" pretty quickly.

Shows ya the last time I went muffler shopping! When I'm ready for my next set (soon I hope) I'd like something with the flowmaster sound without the "tin can" echo.

There's no tin-can echo with a brand-new glasspack. Cherry Bomb does make an alternative that sounds better- I forget what it's called though. I think it's the Vortex. Same principle though.
I'm going Flowmaster 40's when I get my '03 GT this spring.
To stop the echo, just throw a Ricey tip on the end of your Mustang. That'll be like wearing drag at a biker bar LOL...
I'd run the exhaust out the back...easier on the ears, you may not care now but you will later believe me. After 25 years in aviation my hearing isn't the best anymore...save what you have cause you can't get it back.

I could be wrong...... I have been before.
I beleive Maremont actually made the first Cherry Bombs. Either way, Hush Thrushes used to be hot. Thrush is a division of Dynomax I beleive now, but they are not authentic Hush Thrush, although I heard that the sound is almost the exact same. My dad had what many people he knows still claim was the most awesome sounding exhaust setup on his '68 Malibu. It had a Vette 327 with Black Jack headers flowing into a set of very worn out Cherry Bombs (any glass pack muffler blows out and looses almost all of its restrcition over a short period of time) and then it flowed into a set of Hush Thrushes. Not very loud until he got on it, but it apparently sounded very "cherry" to the extreme.
