the info here is great!! my dad used to tell me that the reason it was called a 64.5 was because it came out late in the model year and at that time i didn't have any other questions. he would have been tickled to have seen all the info that you (veronica) posted here!! thanks!
~PS~any chance of finding out the door codes without the original door?

I guess the reason people call the 1st Mustang a 64.5 is because when my Dad went to the Worlds Fair and they showcased the Mustang it had a big sign saying. Ford of Today the 64 1/2 Mustang. LOL
i think my dad may own the red convertable that was at the 1964 worlds fair
it was not sent to any dealer
came with a white top, 260ci engine, and 3sp auto trans.
i belive it to be the worlds fair mustang due to i havent seen any evdence that it is not.

Hello. That particular car ( the one at the World's Fair, not your dad's car) was sold through a dealership. All of the cars that went to the World's Fair where brought back to Ford, refitted for sale and then sold through dealerships. To establish that your dad actually has that car, the burden of proof would be on you. People will not pay a premium price for a car that is historically significant based solely on how nobody can prove that it isn't that car. My car looks exactly like the one used in a James Bond movie, and I can make a pretty good argument that this is in fact that car, based on my car's known history and a couple of other things, but I'm still pretty sure that my car was not that car. It would be cool if it was, because that car ( with a girl with blonde hair driving) was the only thing ever in a James Bond movie that actually frightened James Bond. And, just based on what you have said, I already know that your dad's car is not the car that went to the World's Fair..There are also some structural things that the World's Fair cars had that other mustangs didn't. You would need to A) know what they are and, B) demonstrate that your car has them.

so what dose it mean when a mustang has no dso #?
so were is the worlds fair car?
Hi again. What it means when a data plate has no dso is basically just, the data plate has no dso stamped on it. The cars destined for promotional uses normally had a dso of 84 with 3 or 4 digit suffix to indicate where. As far as where that car is now, nobody knows. It might still be out there, or it might have fallen prey to rust and/or the crusher. Nobody knows.

Hi again. I hope that it doesn't sound like I'm being harsh or short with you, because I certainly don't mean to. That is probably a really neat car that your dad has, and a lot of fun to ride around in. As far as the structural differences, there were several things, like the extra bracing for pulling it along on the track thingy, that I don't really like to just throw out there. None of them would be very difficult to duplicate, and the unscrupulous sort that would do such a thing will at least have to go and do their own homework. I'm not going to hand it to them on a silver platter. I'm not talking about you here, I'm talking about all of those lurkers that never registered and just trawl for information.
i wish my dad would let me drive it but after what i did to my mustang there is no way he would let me. i know my dads car dose not have any mods for being pulled on that track thiing because it wasnt one of the 24 used on the track it is soposed to be the one that was outside the building on the turn table.

why would the data plate have no dso# stamped on it?
i would realy like to find out if it is the world fair mustang cause if it is its worth some money and if its not that means i might get to drive it.

I just found this forum and am impressed by the discussions. Last year I stumbled across a June '64 D code Convertible and love learning new things about the 64 1/2. Look forward to being involved and keeping in tune to this site.
the 64 1/2 Mustangs were made using FALCON parts.............hence,the generator, dash outlay, engines& trannies.tec..............once in early '65...........same deal, just trimmed the excess falcon stuff.& intergrated the alternators, finished hoods............updated dashes, ect.
Hey all. Very nice forums, I just recently joined and have been reading many of them all day long haha.
I had a Rangoon Red 64-1/2 coupe with all of the standard early stuff just like Veronica listed, it had the holes cut in the seat risers too but had bolt in seat belts.
I just bought a 64-1/2 convertible that has the eye bolt seat belts, the vents in the core support but chrome lock knobs and an adjustable seat. It is a San Jose car though and my coupe was a dearborn built unit.
I think they truly did just put all of the stuff available on the cars to use up the parts.
I wonder if Veronica could estimate my build date for my data plate, it is not readable. My car VIN is 5R08F10362X it is a Tropical Turquoise with White top and Black interior, 260 v-8 with 3spd. Thanks. Keep up the great work
