Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this posting. I have a 1972 Mustang fastback that has wipers with an attitude. When activated, the wipers work fine at both speeds. However, they will not stop when turned to the off position. I have tried both a different motor and switch with the same results. I cannot see any burned wires or anything of that nature so I guess I need some help from you more experienced Mustang guys. Has anyone had a similar problem?
Welcome to AFM. I've moved your thread to "Classic Tech". They'll be better able to answer this.
My guess is a wiring issue. They're not delay wipers, are they?

Yes, I had a similar problem, just not on a Mustang.
My '87 Caprice had this problem and it was especially worse the colder it got. It was the circuit board for the wipers controlling the time delay as Meangreen said.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.
Thanks for the replies. I would vote for wiring also I just don't know how to troubleshoot that. The wipers were originally 2-speed that I changed to intermittent. I removed all of the intermittent components when the problem began. But, going back to the original 2-speed setup didn't make a difference...the wipers still keep on truckin in the off position.
Test 'em between the motor and the switch. I would think that the switch interupts the positive side of the circuit, but if it switches the ground side, then I could see a chafed/bare wire causeing that.
Are they on the slow speed when it happens?
Also, is your washer switch part of the wiper switch? Or is it separate?

I have a friend who could probably troubleshoot the wiring for me...thanks. The washer is combined with the switch...you push it in to get the squirts.
i have a similar problem on my '64.5 mustang. I would turn the wipers off and they would continue down, when they got to the bottom they would pause for a short time then start going again. Still haven't figured it out...
